Steve Gailar is President and Chief Executive Officer of MetaCyte Business Lab LLC.

When Steve arrived at MetaCyte in 2004, he introduced a new operating model in which the former "fee for service" model was replaced by a partnership system. MetaCyte co-founds, and as a result, acquires an equity position in each portfolio company, freeing precious capital for company growth.

At the same time, Steve began building a team of management and industry experts that gives MetaCyte portfolio companies a competitive advantage.

Since redefining the operating model and building the current team, MetaCyte has founded or brought into its pipeline 11 new companies with a projected IRR in excess of 30 percent in 2014. The MetaCyte staff has raised more than $12 million in capital for its portfolio companies, and facilitated an additional $3.8 million in other financing. Since 2002, portfolio companies have created more than 40 new high-tech jobs with an average salary of $70,000.

In addition to his leadership at MetaCyte, Steve serves on the boards of ApoImmune, Pradama and RhinoCyte. Additionally, Steve serves on the Enterprise Corporation advisory board and on the board of the Health Enterprise Network. Steve is also interim chairman of the Kentucky Bio Alliance, a member of the Louisville Angel Investor Network, and managing partner of the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund.

Prior to his service with MetaCyte, Steve spent 30 years as a manager of, and investor in, various life sciences businesses.

During fourteen years at Eli Lilly and Company he held various management positions in finance, sales and marketing, as well as establishing the initial Pharmaceutical Strategic Planning component for the company which determined future competencies, investments and acquisitions. Steve spent three years in the San Francisco Bay Area in senior management positions of emerging biotechnology companies including his role as President and CEO of Marlstone Corporation, a rational drug design firm. For thirteen years Steve was a Managing Director of Senmed Medical Ventures, a private evergreen venture capital firm making investments in university spin-outs and mid-to-late stage private life science companies.

Steve has been Founder/CEO of seven biomedical startups and has raised more than $50 million in venture capital financing. The public market capitalization of his investments exceeds $1 billion.

Steve holds a B.A. from Indiana University and an M.S.I.A. from Purdue University's Krannert School of Business.
