Ocular Transplantation is developing tools and methods for transplantation of retinal tissue to treat dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
The company hopes to gain first mover advantage since there is currently no approved treatment for RP or dry AMD.
There are approximately 2 million patients in the U.S. with dry AMD or RP who may benefit from this technology. This number is expected to increase with the aging population. In 2005, the potential market for dry AMD treatments in North America, Western Europe and Japan was $34 billion.
