The company's tests detect circulating autoantibodies in patient serum using proprietary "natural" antigens. Antigen-based assays cannot truly detect early stages of a disorder of interest. Autoantibodies, however, can. ITI's founder, Douglas D. Taylor, Ph.D., initially identified the presence of circulating tumor autoantibodies in the early 1980's and developed the approach of serologic analysis of antigens to define the tumor proteins being recognized.
