Scientific Founder:

   Haval Shirwan, Ph.D.

Description:    ApoImmune, Inc. is a biotechnology company committed to the development of powerful new therapeutics to treat chronic and acute life-threatening diseases and improve patients' quality of life. ApoImmune is founded on a broad-platform protein-based technology used for immunomodulation - that is - using one's own immune system to treat disease.

ApoImmune's technology platform, licensed from the University of Louisville Research Foundation, is the result of more than a decade of research conducted by co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Haval Shirwan. ApoImmune holds an exclusive worldwide license to the technology underlying this research.

ApoImmune completed an institutional financing in 2006, receiving $500K in economic development incentives and continues to develop a lead vaccine product utilizing a $750K Phase I grant from NCI. The company has also been approved for a $1.8M SBIR grant in the current budget, (actual grant amount to be determined upon final SBIR budget).

By 3Q08, ApoImmune had secured more than $3.4M in financing and grants, leading to a successful PreIND meeting 2Q09. The ApoImmune team is currently completing the IND enabling phase.

ApoImmune continues to improve its intellectual property standing, having filed three additional patent applications. Phase I Clinical Trials for its lead product are anticipated to begin in 2009.
